Roles of The Negative Speakers

First Negative's duties:

• Provides a response to the definition (accepts or challenges the definition)
• Rebuts first affirmative delivers a part of the negative's substantive case
• Presents the negative's theme line
• Outlines the negative's team split
• Delivers substantial arguments (first negative's part of the split)
• Provides a brief summary of the speech

Second negative's duties:

• Rebuts the first two affirmative speakers
• Briefly restates in general terms the negative's team case
• Delivers substantial arguments
• Provides a brief summary of the speech

Third negative duties:

• Rebuts the points raised by all three affirmative speakers
• Rebuilds team's case
• Identifies the points of contention/the clash of the debate
• Summarizes the issues of the debate.
